Le concours pour I’aménagement du Parc de La Villette reste l’un des premiers dans I’histoire récente de l’architecture à établir un nouveau programme, celui d’un parc urbain sans précédent proposant la combinaison et la juxtaposition d’activités diverses. Bien que développant des analyses marquées par I’histoire des cités, aucune d’entre elles n’avait abordé le problème des activités dans la ville. Aucune n’avait vraiment considéré que l’organisation de programmes et d’évènements fait autant partie de I’architecture que l’élaboration de formes ou de styles.

The program by the city of Paris was too large for the site, leaving no space for a park. The proposed project is not for a definitive park, but for a method that - combining programmatic instability with architectural specificity - will eventually generate a park.
